Franz Sparry
Franz Sparry (28 April 1715 – 7 April 1767;〔("Oestreichs Prälaturen" (incl. biography of Franz Sparry) ), in ''Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung'', no. 28, columns 457–460. 15 July 1829〕 also known as Josef Sparry) was a composer of the Baroque period.
Sparry was born in Graz, and studied at the University of Salzburg〔(Oxford Music Online entry ). Accessed 31 March 2015〕 before joining the Benedictine order. He subsequently went back to Salzburg to study theology, and began his career as a composer; he wrote a ''Tafelmusik'', his best-known work. From 1747 he was director of music at Kremsmünster Abbey.〔Howard E Smither, ''A History of the Oratorio'', vol. 3. University of North Carolina Press, 1987. ISBN 0807812749. p. 44〕 He died in Kremsmünster.
